Julie Kivlin, LMSW

Offering individual therapy for adults in CT struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodiversity, grief, & more.

I understand your struggle.

Living with depression, anxiety, trauma, neurodiversity, or overwhelming emotions can make it feel like you're trapped in a maze where the walls keep shifting - just when you think you've found your way, everything changes again.

Some days, your thoughts might feel clear and manageable, only to have them scatter like leaves in the wind when faced with an unexpected trigger or memory.

It's crushing, isn't it? The brain fog, the emotional storms, the racing thoughts that won't quiet down, the feeling that you're somehow broken while everyone else seems to have it together.

These challenges often creep in so gradually that we might not notice until simple tasks feel like climbing mountains. People navigating these conditions often experience:

  • Finding yourself zoning out during important conversations or tasks, then feeling guilty about missing information

  • Getting flooded with intense emotions that feel disproportionate to the situation, making it hard to stay present

  • Noticing your body react before your mind does - heart racing, muscles tensing, stomach churning

  • Exhausting yourself trying to appear "normal"

  • Avoiding places or situations that might trigger painful memories or overwhelming feelings

  • Getting stuck in decision paralysis, even with seemingly simple choices

  • Unable to sleep as your mind races, or sleeping too much yet never feeling rested

  • Watching relationships drift away because connecting with others feels too overwhelming

  • Looking at things you used to love and feeling nothing but numbness or dread

I know how deeply challenging it is to carry these burdens day after day, and I'm here to guide you out of the darkness and into the light.

My Specialties & Proven Techniques
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): By exploring the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and actions, CBT helps you identify patterns that might be keeping you stuck. Together, we'll work to shift unhelpful thought patterns and develop new perspectives that better serve your wellbeing.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Blending mindfulness practices with concrete coping strategies, DBT helps you navigate intense emotions and find stability in challenging moments. This approach is particularly effective for those who feel overwhelmed by strong feelings, struggle with emotional regulation, or find themselves caught in reactive patterns.

On a personal note:

As a proud mother to a remarkable son on the autism spectrum, I find joy in life's rhythms - both through my passion for music and drumming, and in embracing nature during long walks outdoors.
