What if I don't like my therapist?

It’s okay if you don’t feel a connection with your therapist right away. You can talk to them about how you're feeling, and explore if it's an issue of personality differences or another internal barrier that makes it harder for you to open up. Therapy works best when you feel comfortable with your therapist, so if you feel that you need to find a better fit or a different type of counseling, reach out to them or to Liz, the practice manager, and let us know. We will always support our clients in their therapeutic journey, wherever that may lead them.

What is therapy like?

Therapy is a safe, supportive space where you talk about what's on your mind. Your therapist will listen, ask questions, and work with you to better understand your feelings and challenges. Each session is different, but it’s all about helping you feel more in control of your thoughts and emotions, and developing new insights and strategies to help you move forward with confidence and clarity.

Will the therapist tell my parents everything?

Most of what you share with your therapist stays confidential. Therapists only share information if they believe you're in danger or if it's legally required. You can always ask your therapist upfront about what they’ll keep private and what might need to be shared.

How long will I need therapy?

Therapy is different for everyone. Some people need just a few sessions to work through a specific issue, while others may benefit from longer-term support. You and your therapist will figure out what works best for you as you go.

How do I bring up certain topics?

If there’s something you’re nervous to talk about, you can start by mentioning that it’s a hard subject for you. Therapists are trained to help you feel safe and comfortable opening up, and you can take it at your own pace. There’s no rush to talk about everything at once. Also, as therapists, we have heard it all and there is no topic that is too taboo or shocking for us. We always approach our work with clients in an open minded and non judgmental manner.
